The 1999 Malaysian General Elections represents the 10th General Elections to be carried out since independence by the Malaysian Election Commission. Nominations of candidates standing for this election was carried out on November 20, 1999, with polling date fixed for November 29, 1999.
Voter eligibility requirements are simple: one must be a citizen of Malaysia above 21 years of age on or before 1 April 1999, and be a resident in one of the Electoral divisions.
To vote on polling date, one must have already registered as a voter, and the name has already been entered into the voter registration records. Generally, the Election Commission fixes the periods every year to carry out new registrations, as well as verification of voter registration records. Online checking of voter registration information, and voting centres for both state seat and parliment seat may be made at the Election Commission website.
On polling date, a registered voter needs to go in person to the relevant polling station (details can be obtained using the form above), and present his/her National Registration Identity Card for verificatin. The voter will be given the ballot papers to be completed. Secrecy is ensured (private polling booth to be used). Completed ballot papers are to be dropped into sealed ballot boxes. The whole process will probably take between 5 to 10 minutes.
Your Vote counts.
