| The XVI Commonwealth Games (aka Kuala Lumpur 98) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 11 to 21 September 1998. A total of 70 countries from the Commonwealth participated in the Games, making this the largest ever Commonwealth Games to be ever hosted, and one with full participation of the Commonwealth member countries. This is also the first Games to be hosted by an Asian country, and the second Games to be hosted by a developing country. This is also the last Commonwealth Games to be hosted this century. The next one, the XVII Commonwealth Games at Manchester, England will take place in 2002.
