The XVI Commonwealth Games (KL 98 Games) Archives
The XVI Commonwealth Games (aka Kuala Lumpur 98) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 11 to 21 September 1998. A total of 70 countries from the Commonwealth participated in the Games, making this the largest ever Commonwealth Games to be ever hosted, and one with full participation of the Commonwealth member countries. This is also the first Games to be hosted by an Asian country, and the second Games to be hosted by a developing country. This is also the last Commonwealth Games to be hosted this century. The next one, the XVII Commonwealth Games at Manchester, England will take place in 2002.

The opening ceremony for the Kuala Lumpur 98 Games started with a big bang on 11 September 1998, with an equally resplendent closing ceremony officiated by HM Queen Elizabeth II on 21 September 1998.

The Games are over now, but as a service to our visitors, we will continue to retain the games schedule, detailed daily results, detailed results of all events for record purposes. We will also continue to expand the photo gallery to remember the greatness of the meet in pictures for the record. The success of the games is only the beginning, and a joy of records for the friendly games. See you all at the XVII Commonwealth Games at Manchester, England in 2002.
